Hippie Food: How Back-to-the-Landers, Longhairs and Revolutionaries Changed the Way We Eat - Jonathan Kauffman
Jonathan Kauffman will speak at the Hood River Best Western 8:30-10:00 PM, Thurs Oct 3rd

Portland-based writer Jonathan Kauffman covers the intersection of food and culture. A former line cook turned journalist, he was a restaurant critic in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle for more than a decade, and a columnist with the San Francisco Chronicle. His writing has won numerous honors, including several from the James
Beard Foundation.

His recent book Hippie Food: How Back-to-the-Landers, Longhairs and Revolutionaries Changed the Way We Eat tells the origin story of how it is that we come to regularly encounter vegetarian, whole grain, tofu, even carob when we shop for food or dine out.  This book was named one of the best food books of 2018 by the New Yorker.

This event is sponsored by Provender Alliance, a Pacific NW organization of natural food businesses, individuals, and advocacy groups, and is part of the Provender Conference, held annually in Oct in Hood River.

Open to the public, tickets at the door, $15.
