The Hood River County Library to Kick Off Summer Reading June 16
The Hood River County Library District will kick off its annual Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 16, 2 p.m. Angel O’Casio will provide entertainment and the event will feature desserts from the WINGS program.
The Summer Reading Program is for all ages from birth to adult. Read a book, listen to an audiobook, complete an activity or attend a library program to participate. Patrons can read or listen to anything they wish including graphic novels and magazines. See the library for full age-specific details. Grand prizes for teens and adults will be given away at the annual Unity Picnic on Saturday, August 18, 5:30 p.m. Prizes included a trip on the Portland Spirit, tickets to Andrews Cinema and a gift certificate for Rebl Movement, among other things.
The program will run at the new Cascade Locks branch, the Hood River branch, the Parkdale branch and at Mercado de Valle in Odell.
For kids, there are a variety of performers, including the Reptile Man, the Zaniac and Tears of Joy, as well as Makerspace coding programs and more. Funds for the performers were provided by the Friends of the Library. Teens can visit to create temporary tattoos and sugar rock art, movie marathon and superhero trivia. For adults there are a variety of concerts, author talks and DIY and natural health workshops.
