Children’s Day is a Japanese national holiday which takes place annually on May 5, the fifth day of the fifth month, and is part of Golden Week. It is a day set aside to respect children’s personalities and to celebrate their happiness. It was designated a national holiday by the Japanese government in 1948. It has been a day of celebration in Japan since ancient times. Columbia Arts will celebrate this holiday with children in our community on Sunday, May 7 from 11am-1pm in the Studio. Local artist Jinx Griswold will be leading coloring projects, koinobori creation, and building traditional hats for all kids in this free workshop. Space is limited so please register below. Note that children cannot be left unattended at CCA for any reason or amount of time.
